Louise Marie Cooke

Louise is a writer and director with a passion for stories featuring diverse and complex female characters at the centre of the narrative, something she feels is lacking in mainstream cinema.

Her previous short films have screened across the world at International Film Festivals such as Frameline, Mix Festival Brasil, and Brooklyn Girl Film Festival. Her last two shorts, SIREN, and FIRST BITE have also been shown at the highly regarded London Short Film Festival and Underwire Festival which champions female cast and crew.

Following Siren, in mid-2015 she completed work on her first short documentary Alice: A Social Media Journey. A short social media biography documentary commissioned by ReeLives. ALICE was the winning film in the ReelLives short film competition which is part of a larger university-funded research project into social media.

Louise was selected for the Edinburgh International Film Festival 2016 Talent Lab and BFI x BAFTA Crew 2017. Her most recent short BREATHE was funded through the Film London "London Calling" 2017 film slate and if currently being submitted to festivals, while her previous short PILLOW TALK is still playing at festivals after premiering at Inside Toronto in May 2017.

I love to film things, tell stories, and read on the subway. I'm pretty sure blue whales are my power animal.
