Flo Baumann

Flo Baumann worked on feature films in Switzerland and Germany before graduating from the Zurich University of the Arts film program early 2012.

His thesis film ‘Corpus’ (30min, 2011) was nominated by the German Film Academy for ‘Best Narrative Short’ and went on to play at plenty of festivals around the globe. In the same year, he moved to the US to continue my studies in NYU Tisch MFA Film Program.

Months later he discontinued his studies, choosing to apply his scholarships toward writing and developing his first feature film ’50 Miles From Boomtown’. In 2014, the Swiss Federal Office of Culture granted Flo the highest amount of script development funding possible, in 2015 50 Miles was selected for the Creative Producing Lab at Sundance and the project is slated to go into production as early as summer 2018.

In addition, Flo went on to co-write and direct ‘Between’, a 30-minute short film, about a 13-year old boy caught in the web of his parents’ divorce. Christian Cloos, head of –‘Das kleines Fernsehpiel’, a department of the German television channel ZDF that produced early films from directors such as Jim Jarmusch and Wim Wenders, wrote about the film:

An oppressive study of a 13 year old boy which is told quietly, precisely and atmospherically dense, with haunting, sometimes even metaphorical images.

Flo lives in Fort Greene, Brooklyn and is working as a TA and freelance video editor.

Flo is currently in preparation for his first feature film called 50 Miles from Boomtown’, a project supported by the Sundance Institute Creative Producing Lab.

I love to film things, tell stories, and read on the subway. I'm pretty sure blue whales are my power animal.
