‘High & Tight’ was first conceived 3 years ago when I was seated in a barber chair. On this particular day, my regular barber canceled my appointment last minute and I had to settle for another barber. Like most men from the NY inner city, we are picky when it comes to who cuts our hair. It's a unique relationship that builds through time. As I sat on the chair with a barber who I had no rapport with, I started to feel irritable and somewhat vulnerable. That experience sparked a curiosity that I wanted to explore further explore through cinema.
The story of ‘High & Tight’ quickly evolved during the time my Uncle Elpidio Mendoza passed away. His death completely devastated my family, especially my mother who was very close to him.
‘High and Tight’ explores the gray areas of a tragedy and the choices that are presented to us.
